I'm going to start doing this with my 5th grade classes every year. So many of my fifth grade students lose their zest for reading of any kind, and picture books are such a great way to keep it alive. Thanks for the great idea!
How much time do you set aside at the end of the day for the read aloud? Do you always finish the book? Is there much time for discussion or is this a read aloud just for enjoying the book and not instructional per se?
I’ve been doing more picture books for the last month or so. I’m determined to add it daily next year. Multiple kids said it’s their favorite thing we’ve done. No real lessons with them, just reading for the joy.
